Vijaiya ‘VJ’ Poopalasingham is a Labour & Co-operative District Councillor for Great Ashby and is now standing for Royston West and Rural. Since being elected to the District Council, VJ has brought, for the first time, strong local engagement with the residents with regular councillor surgeries where residents can address issues that really matter to them. This has included SEND provision which is sorely lacking in Great Ashby and surrounding areas.

“Last year, voters chose to put their trust in a vote for change over the status quo. It has been a privilege to have been elected as the first Labour & Co-operative representative for my home and to have been given the trust of my community to represent their interests at North Herts Council after years of being taken for granted by the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives.

“However, after years of absent politicians and a failure to listen to the needs of everyday working people, it is the challenges around education, SEND provision, transport, healthcare and cost of living, that we hear time and again on the doorstep from worried families.

“That is why I am standing as the candidate for Royston West and Rural; so that I can continue the fight for a better future at County Hall, on behalf of residents across our fantastic communities”.
